Sutton-Under-Whitestone-Cliffe SUTTON-UNDER-WHITESTONE-CLIFFE, a township, in the parish of Felix-Kirk, union of Thirsk, wapentake of Birdforth, N. riding of York, 3½ miles (E. by N.) from Thirsk; containing 365 inhabitants. The village is pleasantly situated on the road from Thirsk to Helmsley, and near a high cliff yielding excellent limestone and freestone: a lake here of about 17 acres abounds in pike and perch. The Archbishop of York is lord of the manor. There is a place of worship for Independents.
